A ductless mini split is a heating and cooling system made up of two units — an indoor air handler mounted on the wall and an outdoor compressor/condenser unit. The two are connected by a refrigerant line that passes through a small hole in the wall (typically 3 inches). Unlike central air conditioning, no ductwork is required. In cooling mode, the system absorbs heat from inside your home and transfers it outside. In heating mode, it reverses that process — extracting heat from outdoor air and bringing it inside. This is why it's called a heat pump.

Both series offer year-round heating and cooling, AHRI-certified efficiency ratings, Wi-Fi control, and R32 refrigerant. The Vanguard is our premium line — it carries Energy Star certification, achieves up to 24 SEER2, operates in outdoor temperatures as low as -13°F, and comes with a 5-year compressor warranty. The Vega is our everyday series — AHRI certified, up to 20.5 SEER2, and backed by a 3-year compressor warranty. Both series are available in 9,000, 12,000, 18,000, and 24,000 BTU models.

The 9,000 and 12,000 BTU models in both the Vanguard and Vega series run on 115V and can plug into a standard dedicated 15A household outlet. The 18,000 and 24,000 BTU models require 208/230V and need a dedicated circuit installed by a licensed electrician. Check the model spec page or the unit label before purchase if you are unsure.

The Vanguard series is both Energy Star and AHRI certified. The Vega series is AHRI certified. Energy Star certification is not applicable to the Vega series.

All Electrolux Vanguard and Vega split AC systems use R32 refrigerant, which has a lower global warming potential (GWP) than the R410A refrigerant used in older systems.

As a general guide: 9,000 BTU covers up to 450 sq ft, 12,000 BTU covers up to 750 sq ft, 18,000 BTU covers up to 1,000 sq ft, and 24,000 BTU covers up to 1,250 sq ft. These figures assume standard ceiling height, average insulation, and moderate sun exposure. Rooms with high ceilings, large windows, poor insulation, or direct sun exposure may require a larger unit. When in doubt, consult a licensed HVAC professional — oversizing can cause short cycling and humidity problems.

Electrolux Vanguard and Vega systems are single-zone units, meaning each outdoor unit is paired with one indoor unit. They are designed to condition one defined space. If you need to condition multiple separate rooms, you would need a unit per room.

Professional installation is strongly recommended. The installation involves handling refrigerant lines, high-voltage wiring, and structural wall penetrations. Improper installation can void your warranty and reduce system performance. Electrolux recommends using a licensed HVAC contractor.

Every Electrolux Vanguard and Vega system ships with everything needed for a standard installation: pre-charged line set, backlit remote and batteries, rubber shock pad, wall-piercing protective circle, copper nuts, expansion anchor bolts, putty, tape, cable ties, and warranty card. An outdoor wall bracket and concrete pad are not included and should be sourced separately.

A standard single-zone installation by a licensed professional takes approximately 60 minutes, assuming no unusual structural or electrical complications.

A standard 3-inch (75mm) hole is required to pass the refrigerant line, drain line, and electrical cable between the indoor and outdoor units.

The maximum line set length for all Vanguard and Vega models is 15 feet. The systems ship pre-charged for this length. If your installation requires a longer run, contact a licensed HVAC technician for guidance.

Yes. All Electrolux Vanguard and Vega systems are heat pumps — they provide both heating and cooling from a single wall-mounted unit. The Vanguard series heats in outdoor temperatures as low as -13°F. The Vega series heats in outdoor temperatures as low as 19°F.

The Vega 9,000 and 12,000 BTU models run as quietly as 27 dB(A) at minimum fan speed — quieter than a library. The 18,000 and 24,000 BTU models run at a minimum of 35 dB(A) and 39 dB(A) respectively. Vanguard models are similarly quiet — refer to individual product spec pages for model-specific noise ratings.

All models include eight comfort modes: Auto, Cool, Heat, Dry, Fan-Only, Turbo, Sleep, and Eco. Five fan speeds are available on all units.

Yes. All Vanguard and Vega models include built-in Wi-Fi for smartphone control — adjust temperature, switch modes, and set schedules from anywhere. All models also support Alexa and Google Assistant for hands-free voice control.

Yes. Every unit ships with a backlit remote that includes a 24-hour timer and full manual control. Wi-Fi is not required for day-to-day operation.

The self-clean function heats the indoor coil to a high temperature to sterilize it and purge moisture buildup automatically. This reduces mold and bacteria growth inside the unit without requiring a service call. It is available on all Vanguard and Vega models.

Yes. In cooling mode, the system removes moisture from the air as part of normal operation. All models also include a dedicated Dry mode that prioritizes dehumidification with reduced cooling output.

The Vanguard series includes a 5-year compressor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty. The Vega series includes a 3-year compressor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty. Full warranty terms are available on the Warranty information page.

All Electrolux Vanguard and Vega units have a top-access washable dust filter. Remove the filter, rinse it under warm water, allow it to dry fully, and refit it. The unit will alert you when the filter is due for cleaning. We recommend cleaning it every 4–6 weeks during heavy use.
